Amherst Pediatric Associates employs standard vision and hearing services.
Vision is typically assessed at ages 3, 4 and 5 years of age using a vision testing machine. Young children are asked to identify pictures and older children will be asked letters. As needed, children may be tested for color vision.
Hearing is also assessed at the same ages as vision. Hearing may be assessed passively with our auditory evoked testing device or with our standard hearing screening machine. Tympanometry can be performed to measure middle ear pressure and fluid.
If significant problems with vision are suspected, referral to pediatric ophthalmology will be made. If hearing problems are suspected, referrals to audiology or pediatric ENT specialists can be done.
